Environmental assessment toolkit tailored for the Estonian startup ecosystem in development

October 1, 2024

The Estonian Business and Innovation Agency (EIS) is supporting the development of Estonia's startup ecosystem by equipping startups with the necessary knowledge and tools to navigate an ever-evolving business landscape. As part of this effort, the Estonian Cleantech Association has been commissioned to develop an environmental assessment toolkit tailored for the Estonian startup ecosystem. This toolkit intends to support startup ecosystem organizations in assisting startups to better manage, assess, and report their impact.

Project Goal

The primary goal of this toolkit is to empower startup ecosystem organizations to better support startups in evaluating, managing, and reporting their environmental impact. This effort aligns with the European Union's ambitious climate objectives, including the target of achieving climate neutrality by 2050. The EU is driving this transition by promoting green investments and requiring businesses to monitor and disclose their environmental performance. However, many startups, particularly early-stage ventures, face challenges in understanding and complying with these evolving regulatory requirements.

Recognizing this need, the environmental assessment toolkit will serve as a practical resource, helping startups integrate environmental considerations into their business operations from the outset. It will facilitate more transparent impact assessment and reporting practices, enabling startups to align with the EU's green agenda and contribute to broader climate action goals.
